What we store

When you save a page, Bookmend stores the bookmark in your account in our cloud database: its URL, title, description, image and site, plus anything you add or the AI suggests — collections, tags, notes, favourites and the AI summary. Bookmend also keeps the readable text of each saved page, which is what makes summaries, suggestions and chat accurate. Storing your library in your account is how it stays the same in the Chrome extension and the web app at bookmend.app.

Trying Bookmend without an account

You can try Bookmend without signing up. That creates a temporary anonymous library with a small bookmark limit, stored on our servers the same way as a regular account. If you sign up, everything you saved in the trial is kept in your new account.

How pages are read

To fill in a bookmark's title and details and to read its text, Bookmend's servers request the page you saved. If a page can't be read directly, it may be fetched through a reader service (Jina Reader), which receives the page URL in order to return its text.

AI features

Ask your library (chat with your bookmarks), AI tags, notes, collection suggestions and summaries work by sending page text and bookmark details — such as title, tags, summary and notes — to AI model providers through OpenRouter. This happens only to produce tags, summaries, embeddings (used to find bookmarks by meaning) and chat answers. The questions you ask in chat are sent the same way so they can be answered from your saved pages. Bookmend itself never uses your bookmarks or page text to train AI models, and never sells them. Each model provider handles requests under its own terms, which OpenRouter publishes for every provider.

Link health checks

To tell you whether a saved page still works, Bookmend's servers make a real request to that URL. Checks run in the background, at most once a day per bookmark. The site you saved sees a request from Bookmend's servers, not from your browser.

Recovery (Wayback Machine)

When a link is dead, Bookmend looks up archived copies using the Internet Archive's public Wayback Machine API. That request goes to the Internet Archive, a separate organization with its own privacy practices. We send only the URL being looked up, nothing else about you or your library.

What we don't do

• — We don't sell or rent your data to anyone.
• — We don't show ads or run third-party ad trackers or advertising pixels.
• — We don't read your browsing history. Bookmend works with the pages you choose to save.
• — We don't share individual usage data with your employer or any third party, other than the services named on this page that do the work you ask for.

Export and account deletion

You can export your bookmark library at any time, on any plan. Deleting your account removes your data from Bookmend.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what data we collect or which services receive it, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the product for material changes.
